OUR STORY · SINCE 2014

THE STORY BEHIND TWYA

More than a brand. A journey of identity, creation and becoming yourself.

TWYA

THE WAY YOU ARE.

WHAT IS TWYA

TWYA, or THEWAYOUARE, was born long before it existed as a brand.

It was born in 2014, in the mind of someone who wanted to create a new world, but who did not yet know exactly what that world would be.

During a conversation with a friend, an idea emerged.

One of those seemingly simple moments that, for reasons we cannot explain, stay with us.

That was the beginning of a journey that would last more than a decade.

2014 — THE BEGINNING

In the beginning, TWYA was not TWYA.

The first brand idea was called GALLANT.

For around four years, between 2014 and 2017, GALLANT existed mostly as a vision. A concept in the making. A brand that had yet to find its form, but that served as the first laboratory for everything that would follow.

It was during this period that an intense search for knowledge began.

I wanted to understand how great brands were born, how an identity was built, how the world of fashion worked and, above all, how to turn an idea into a brand that meant something.

That search also led me into the textile industry itself, where I began working as a designer.

I did not just want to create clothes.

I wanted to understand everything behind them.

Design, materials, processes, how a collection is built, visual identity, positioning, and how a brand can communicate who it is without having to explain too much.

Over the years, that experience continued to grow.

Today, that amounts to around ten years connected to textiles and design — ten years of continuous learning, mistakes, discoveries, influences and evolution.

But I still had not found the brand that truly felt like my own.

2017 — GULVAN

Between 2017 and 2020, a new idea emerged.

GULVAN.

This time, the concept was connected to the world of sport.

But something within that idea would prove far more important than GULVAN itself.

A slogan:

THE WAY YOU ARE.

At the time, I did not know it, but those four words held the future of the brand.

GULVAN, like GALLANT before it, never fully fulfilled what I was looking for.

It was an idea.

It was a project.

But it was not the brand.

And there was a reason for that.

I did not want to launch something simply because I could.

I wanted to launch something I genuinely believed in.

Something I could feel.

So for years, I kept creating, studying, experimenting and searching.

Until something seemingly simple happened.

THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGED

One day, in my room — my personal retreat, the place where I created ideas, philosophies and designs — I found myself thinking about GULVAN again.

And I thought:

“What if I took the slogan THE WAY YOU ARE and made a T-shirt with just those words?”

I tried the idea.

I did not like it.

But instead of abandoning the concept, another question came to mind:

“What if I used only the initials?”

THE
WAY
YOU
ARE

T W Y A

I looked at those four letters.

And in that moment, something happened that had never happened with GALLANT.

Nor with GULVAN.

I no longer needed to search.

I did not need to invent another name.

I did not need to build an identity around something that did not feel right.

The identity was right there.

It had always been there.

TWYA.

The initials of THE WAY YOU ARE.

It was an explosion of joy, almost disbelief.

After years of searching for a name, I realised that perhaps I had never really been looking for a name.

I had been looking for something meaningful.

And what I had been searching for had been right under my nose all along.

TWYA

That is how TWYA was born.

It was not born out of a trend.

It was not born out of market research.

It was not born from an attempt to find a name that simply sounded good.

It was born from years of searching, learning, trial and error.

It began with GALLANT.

It passed through GULVAN.

Through design, the textile industry, influences, doubts and all the projects that never saw the light of day.

And it ultimately emerged from four words:

THE WAY YOU ARE.

TWYA.

But TWYA is more than four letters.

It is a philosophy.

The idea that what we wear can be an extension of who we are.

That we do not need to wear what others expect us to wear.

That we do not need to follow a formula in order to belong.

Being yourself is enough.

Because in the end, TWYA was never just about clothes.

It was about identity.

About expression.

About evolution.

About finding your own path.

TWYA

THE WAY YOU ARE.

Just the way you are.
